Previously, if you wanted to pick up a Playstation VR headset, you couldn’t necessarily plug-and-play. You needed to own both the Playstation Camera as well as the Playstation Move controllers, which are sold separately from the unit. This was a bit awkward, because it left a number of people unable to actually use their headset immediately after purchasing the core bundle.

After a number of months on the market though, it looks like Sony has opted to offer the Playstation camera free with purchase of the headset, at least for a limited time. When on the product page on Amazon, a message appears explaining that users can get the Playstation Camera absolutely free as a bonus offer, but we’re not exactly sure how long this will last. Gamestop had the deal as well for the last couple days, but the bundle seems to have disappeared from their website.

It makes sense for Sony to include the Playstation camera in this bundle, as it helps players to get their hands on Sony’s VR offering at a more manageable cost. One of the biggest issues plaguing virtual reality currently is the cost associated with getting started, and anything these companies can do to lower the cost of entry is greatly appreciated.

Were you considering picking up a PSVR but didn’t want to spend the extra cash on a camera and move controllers? Does this bundle deal entice you to the level that you may consider buying a headset now?
