Steam

Steam Dev Days, Valve’s developer-only conference in Seattle, kicked off yesterday. Though it’s closed for the press, that hasn’t stopped devs tweeting about the behind-the-scenes happenings at the show, including news regarding the platforms current usage stats.

Reading into some tweets coming from those at the show, it seems that Valve has disclosed the current rate of VR adoption on Steam, with one developer tweeting the quote: “We have over 1000 new VR users on Steam every day”.

Though we can’t verify the claim from behind closed doors, other tweets have gone some way to corroborating it.

1000 new VR users sounds like an impressive figure given the technology is still in its infancy, but it’s not clear exactly how this has been measured. A VR ‘user’ could simply count as a person launching a VR app within Steam.

That said, there’s no doubt VR is seeing growth in 2016 with the release of the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and the PlayStation VR, released today, broadening its appeal.

Is 1000 users per day at this stage in VR a good achievement? Give us your thoughts in the comments.
