First there was Google Cardboard that provided an affordable way to experience virtual reality and travel to all around the world, and now there’s Google Cardboard Plastic – a new way to experience virtual reality. Launching today, Google Cardboard Plastic is a new virtual reality viewer that lets you see, touch, smell and hear the world just like you do in real life.
Google Cardboard Plastic features a 4D integrated perspective, 360-degree spatially accurate sound, 20/20 resolution, and advanced haptics for realistic touch sensations. It’s waterproof, lightweight, lasts forever, and has no batteries or wires. Google Cardboard Plastic comes in a variety of tints and patterns with various add-on accessories coming very soon. As Google puts it, “what’s realer than real? Probably nothing. Or maybe something! I doubt it, though. I think we’re done.”
Google Cardboard was inherently problematic when it came to causing nausea during operation, perhaps the addition of the 4D integrated perspective will fix this with Google Cardboard Plastic.
Needless to say, if it wasn’t abundantly clear already, this is Google’s idea of an April Fools joke. Whilst the concept has clearly been thoroughly thought through, the idea that plastic can provide any advanced features is somewhat far-fetched. Good one Google!
