Over the years, i’ve been to many a Best Buy midnight release. Whether it was StarCraft, Diablo, Pokemon, or something wholly different, it was always extremely fun to camp out a couple hours before midnight and come home with a game the moment it was released into the world.
Well, the world has changed quite a bit since those days, but the electronic retail company is still at it. The store has been showing off Oculus Rift headsets on demo for quite some time now, so it seems like a great time for Sony to finally bring their own virtual reality headset into the world. And on the eve of October 13th, that is exactly what they are doing.
Because of how time zones work in the United States, some players will be able to get their hands on the headset even sooner. Sony is basing the launch date on the east coast, so for those living in the western side of the US, expect to pick up your HMD around 9:01pm on October 12th. That’s right, some people will technically get to walk away with their bit of virtual reality magic just a little bit earlier than the rest.
The headset will cost $399 on launch, which is technically the cheapest high end solution available at the moment, but keep in mind you will have to own a Playstation 4 before you can take advantage. If you do decide to make a purchase however, prepare to be impressed. Many have said that the Playstation VR games are some of the most complete virtual reality experiences you can find. That said, they are going to cost quite a bit more than the average PC game, retailing at about $60 a title.
Are you planning on going to a midnight release? October 13th is only 2 weeks away.
