The best Oculus Quest and Quest 2 games to play

If you’ve decided to make the Oculus Quest or the all-new Quest 2 your VR headset of choice, congratulations. You’re entering an exciting new way to enjoy your favorite games and content, but where do you begin? Well, get your controllers ready because here are our picks for the best Oculus Quest and Quest 2 games.

Of course, the Quest 2 is the newer system of the pair, so there’s a good chance that it will see new titles for much longer than the original quest. For the time being, however, we’ll grab the titles available for both platforms.

Editor’s note: We’ll be sure to add new picks to this list of the best Oculus Quest and Quest 2 games as they launch.

Beat Saber

Even if you’re not too familiar with the VR landscape, there’s a decent chance you’ve heard of Beat Saber. Think of it as Tap Tap Revenge or Guitar Hero for VR – it’s easy to get started, but you’ll have to pour hours into it if you want to become a master. As the name suggests, you swing your “saber” controllers to the beat of popular music to rack up points. You can also take your beats on the go thanks to the wire-free nature of the Quest and Quest 2.

Superhot

Beat Saber keeps things pretty casual, but Superhot VR puts you right in the middle of the action. You’ll have to put your dodgeball skills into practice as you dip, dodge, and duck past flying knives and bullets. It’s more intense and more difficult than console versions of Superhot, and the game supports totally free movement. You can take Superhot VR on the go, but you’ll want to make sure you have extra space to move around as you maneuver through levels.

Half-Life: Alyx

You can’t mention a Valve project without hearing about the Half-Life series, and Alyx is the studio’s return to the Black Mesa universe. It takes place between the action of Half-Life and Half-Life 2, but you’re not taking control of Gordon Freeman this time around. Instead, you’ll bring Alyx Vance to life and battle against the control of the Combine as you search for a weakness to exploit. Also, the game is free if you have a Valve Index headset.

Rec Room

You’re already dropping a pretty penny on your Oculus Quest setup, so why not add a free game to your library? Rec Room may have some basic graphics and styling, but it offers all of the fun of a real arcade. You can go between a few play areas and jump into games like paintball and capture the flag. There’s also a lounge where you can just hang out, but we make no promises for the behavior of other players.

Pistol Whip

Pistol Whip is somewhat like Superhot VR, though you’re leading the action and doing the blastin’. It puts you in the driver’s seat as you blow away baddies and bust out action star moves with a pulsing dubstep track in the background. Since it’s impractical for most people to jump into an actual movie, Pistol Whip offers a solid backup plan. Unfortunately, there aren’t too many “scenes” to try out just yet.

Arizona Sunshine

If you sit and watch AMC’s Walking Dead series and think to yourself that it wouldn’t be too hard, Arizona Sunshine is a chance to prove it. It’s a zombie thriller that’s a big hit on other VR platforms, but don’t let the name fool you. Arizona Sunshine offers plenty of action and brain-eating excitement with a large arsenal of 25 or so weapons. The game isn’t cheap, but you can dig into a campaign, horde mode, and co-op mode for even more action.

Star Trek: Bridge Crew

These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise and her crew, or at least the tales of you and your friends. Bridge Crew allows you and a cooperative group of friends to strap into a real Star Trek ship and pilot your way to success or failure. Each decision you make has an impact on your mission, and you just might end up in some Klingon clutches. Just be careful of your Trekkie family members as they may strap in and never come back out.

Vader Immortal

Beat Saber offered a taste of the saber-swinging goodness that can come with the Oculus Quest and Quest 2, but Vader Immortal takes it a step further. You can strap on your Jedi boots and take on one of the most feared villains in science fiction through a trilogy of titles. Each game adds new features and new foes as you work your way to the Sith lord’s castle for the final showdown. You can also sharpen your skills in the dojo to make sure that your Force push is up to snuff.
