Epson has been developing their own AR headset and is now going to provide Super Venture early version models of the Moverio to help move the platform along. Epson is using the unique partnership to leverage Super Venture’s deep ties with over 150,000 professionals in the AR and wearables community.
Super Ventures is on a mission, an outlandish-sounding one, to accelerate industry growth in technologies giving people super powers. These technologies include augmented reality, virtual reality, and wearable tech, all of which give the impressions of superpowers through modern day technology. Super Venture invests and mentors entrepreneurs launching early stage startups focusing on AR and wearable technology.
The Moverio BT-300 is Epson’s newest generation AR headset is the world’s lightest binocular, transparent smart glasses with an OLED display. Powering the headset is an Intel Atom processor, and Android OS 5.1. The Moverio is available for pre-order and will be available in late 2016 for consumer purchase.
The partnership for Epson will give them an understanding of how developers and consumers would use the Moverio. They’ll also have innovative companies working on using the Epson technology on their early startup, which could lead to further partnerships.
