Landfall hands on @ Oculus Connect 3

Landfall is a realtime strategy game, which honestly reminds me of Airmech. That’s not a bad thing at all, as I have really enjoyed playing that game on the Oculus Rift.

As you’d expect, this is a third person experience, though you do drop into a 1st person view when going into specific vehicles to shoot down enemies. As far as controls go, this title doesn’t utilize the Oculus Touch controls, opting instead for the Xbox One gamepad, though honestly this control suits this kind of play style just fine.

Of course you can look around the battlefield and inspect your characters using the VR headset to lean in and it helps you better figure out what you want to do in a VR view than you could from a traditional camera angle. With a game that has so much going on at once, this kind of 3D perspective really helps out a lot.

This particular title does have a multiplayer component, and in my demo I was placed into a two-on-two battle, my faction vs theirs. It’s a lot of action going on because when you are controlling your character the left analog stick moves them around and right analog to point in the direction you want to shoot your weapon. You then pull the right analog trigger to shoot the weapon and the right to throw a grenade.

You start off as reg soldier in battlefield. In my demo, there were two different scenarios, the first was the classic “us vs them”, but in the second we were trying to detonate explosives on specific targets.

The real fun is involved when you get special abilities so you have stuff like protective shields that will protect you from enemy fire. Of course the best part is the mechs, which really stand out because they are not only super armored but have heavy duty fire power too.

Bottom-line, there is a lot of strategy involved in this game and if you are into real-time strategy games with a ton of action, you’ll likely enjoy this one. This is especially true if you happened to be a fan of Air Mech. What do you think of the game? Let us know your thoughts down in the comments. You can also check out the official trailer here:
