The updated Gear VR headset has a few improvements over the current generation virtual reality headset, but the main update is the inclusion of a USB Type-C port to allow connection to the new Galaxy Note 7. The headset is due to launch next week but for those who already have the Note 7 on order and want to get the Gear VR to go along with it, you can now pre-order via Amazon.
It’s priced at $99.99 with the previous model down to $77.47. The updated Gear VR also includes a standard MicroUSB adapter for the port so the new version is compatible with all the latest Samsung smartphones, including: Galaxy Note 7, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.
As far as what else has changed in the new version – the viewing angle has increased from 90 degrees to 110 degrees. In addition, aesthetically the updated Gear VR looks very similar and even though it’s slightly bigger than the previous model, it seems more sleeker. On the right hand side of the headset, the touch pad is now flat rather than having indents for your fingers. Also just above the touch pad is an extra button that has been added, this acting as a dedicated ‘Home’ button alongside the ‘Back’ button.
The Gear VR is set to launch on Friday 19th August so make sure you’ve got your pre-orders in on Amazon.
