Fans of the popular first-person shooter Payday 2 might want to think about getting a virtual reality headset. The game’s developer Overkill Software will add a VR mode to the PC edition of Payday 2 sometime in 2017. This new feature will be free for all owners of the game.
Polygon reports that this update will allow VR gamers to play through the entire game, rather than in a mode with just a small amount of content. VR players of Payday 2 will also be able to play against their normal PC counterparts in multiplayer. A beta version is supposed to be available later this year.
Overkill showed off a teaser trailer for the new VR mode, where players used an HTC Vive headset and hand controllers to not only shoot guns but also to steal items and even help revive teammates. There’s no word on if the game will also support the Oculus Rift headset.
Payday 2 centers on teams of criminals trying to rob banks and other locations while the police try to stop them. The game was first released in 2013 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 and has received a constant flow of regular DLC content updates since that time. Versions of the game have since been released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles, and yet another version is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this fall.
