Sony Interactive Entertainment have today confirmed that it will be bringing the Playstation VR headset to China in October.
Sony Interactive Entertainment hosted a press conference to help kick off the ChinaJoy gaming event. The company used the opportunity to confirm that the Playstation VR will launch in China at the same time the US, Europe, and Japan receive the device.

That means as of October 13th, 2016, the Playstation VR will be available to 4 regions. The price for China was announced at 2999RMB, which converts to around $450. That comes in at a little bit more expensive than the $399 US price but SIE is also offering bundles with the PlayStation Camera (3299RMB/$495) and the Move Controllers and Camera (3699RMB/$555) to help bring the price down.
It’s not all good news, however, as according to Tech In Asia, PS VR won’t be getting as many games in China as it will in other territories. We are expecting around 50 games launching between October and December on the platform in the US and Europe but it seems China will only see around 20 of those. It’s not clear at this point what those 20 titles will be, but is entirely expected given the different language, ratings, and distribution channels used in China.
Despite this, I’m sure many prospective VR owners in China will be disappointed that it won’t be getting the same initial launch titles as the rest of the world. VR in China is set to boom and any company that can leverage the sheer scale of potential customers in the region is sure to see its VR headset blossom. Perhaps Playstation VR may the one that conquers China in October?
