The hugely popular Resident Evil game franchise is also home to a bunch of live-action and CGI-based movies. The latest such animated film, Resident Evil: Vendetta, will be the third CGI movie to be released. As it turns out, it will also be the basis for an upcoming free VR experience for owners of Sony’s PlayStation VR headset.
UploadVR reports that the name of the free “game” (it’s really more of a short 360 degree video) is Resident Evil: Vendetta Z Infected Experience, and it will allow PSVR owners to get an idea of what it is like to become a zombie in the game’s universe. After it turns you into one of the undead, the rest of the experience will see you attack some of the CGI movie’s main characters.
The VR experience will be released in Japan on May 24, just a few days before Resident Evil Vendetta is launched in theaters in that country on May 27. There’s no word on when, or if, the experience will be released outside of Japan. However, the movie will get a limited theatrical release in the US on June 19 before it goes on sale in digital download movie stores on June 20. After that, it will go on sale on DVD and Blu-ray on July 18th.
