In collaboration with HTC, Square Enix has announced the release of a new card battler title based on the Japanese hit Kai-ri-Sei Million Arthur.
While many have speculated that the title was just a VR remaster of the previous iteration, the company has confirmed that it is providing a wholly new experience, with its own story line and gameplay. While very early demos have been shown in the past, the company is saying it is ready to show off a plethora of new features and experiences. In anticipation of the launch of the new title, Square Enix is planning to show off the new title at the 2016 Tokyo Game Show later this month.
Naoya Kashima, Producer at Square Enix had this to say about the new title:
We are delighted to announceKai-ri-Sei Million Arthur VR is finally being delivered to the end users. This is not just a brush-up version of the pilot; all scenarios have been newly developed. We strongly believe the powerful 360-scened card battle and unique characters in the immersive world of VR in started with HTC Vive will be loved by the fans.
This is pretty exciting, as it means the new experience is pretty well along at this point, and should complete development relatively soon.
Square Enix is also enlisting the help of Gree Studios to bring the title to fruition. While the studio has traditionally produced games for mobile platforms like iPhone and Android, they have quite a bit of experience in producing high-quality 3D assets, so they should do a great job with the new experience.
Eiji Araki, Vice President of Gree also commented expressing his excitement for the new title:
Having the opportunity to develop this world famous title Kai-ri-Sei Million Arthur of Square Enix Co., Ltd. to a mature VR game was a challenge for both Gree Inc. and Gree VR studio. It is also a great chance to deliver such an attractive VR experience to consumers. We hope you will enjoy it at TGS 2016.
Gree isn’t the only studio that has also expressed their excitement in working with the famous developer. HTC’s president of North Asia Jack Tong expressed his anticipation for the game in a followup statement as well:
Since the HTC Vive arrived at retail stores across Japan last month, there’s been a growing swell of acclaim and a strong sales response. We are now extensively working with the global leading Game Soft creator and developer, Square Enix and its partner, Gree to launch the VR version of Kai-ri-Sei Million Arthur VR, one of the best-selling mobile card games worldwide, exclusively on HTC Vive. This strategic partnership will help foster the global virtual reality ecosystem, and deliver the most inspiring and vibrant experiences on the HTC Vive.
Now that all these great developers are on board, we can only hope that they start pumping out some awesome new titles in the coming months.
