There’s definitely some great news, and some bad news, if you have been waiting for the release of Star Trek Bridge Crew. The VR game that’s coming for the PlayStation VR, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift headsets will be adding some content that will please hardcore Trekkies, but you will have to wait a bit longer to play.
Let’s get the bad news out of the way first. Star Trek Bridge Crew’s release date has changed once again, this time to May 30. This is the second time that publisher Ubisoft has delayed its launch from space dock. It was originally supposed to be out in November 2016, and then it was pushed back to March 14, 2017. Let’s hope the new May 30 date will stand firm.
Now the great news. The game will add the option to explore the galaxy on the bridge of the original TV show version of the USS Enterprise. Yes, you can truly sit in a virtual version of Captain Kirk’s chair and look at all of the cool 1960s buttons and screens all around you in virtual reality. You can go solo if you want, or you can get up to three of your friends to join you on the bridge. The Enterprise is available in the game’s Ongoing Voyages mode, which will offer procedurally generated solo and co-op missions.
We personally can’t wait to get on board the Enterprise bridge and say stuff like, “Fire phasers”, and “Ahead warp factor 2”. Star Trek Bridge Crew will still have the other option to explore the universe on board the U.S.S. Aegis, a science vessel that’s set in the “Kelvin timeline” of the last three Star Trek feature films. But for fans who have watched the original series since 1966, this retro bridge should be a huge incentive to get the game.
