Ever felt the urge to take command of the Star Trek bridge? With Ubisoft’s upcoming Star Trek VR game, you will. Star Trek: Bridge will be the first virtual reality game set in the popular science fiction universe. Old-time fans might be a bit miffed, as this game does take place in the JJ Abrams version of the universe. The starship at your command, the Aegis, is about 90 percent similar to the Enterprise with most changes made just so that players can better see each other and reach the controls they need to.
Star Trek: Bridge is multiplayer for up to four players. These players must work together as captain, engineer, and helm or tactical stations. The game is being compared to the popular game Spaceteam, which was itself based off the kind of bridge interactions so iconic to the Star Trek franchise. As part of the promotional material for the upcoming title, developers let actors from the series give it a test run.
“This wasn’t anything like you see on the show,” said Jeri Ryan, a cast member on Voyager for four seasons. “When we were shooting it, the bridge set was all plywood and plastic. When you’re looking at the ship’s monitors, they were either green screens or just big openings in the walls. This was incredible. It’s what it would be like if it were real.”
We don’t have a specific launch date or price for this virtual reality adventure, but we do know it will be arriving this fall for the Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR.
