With the details of Google’s Daydream VR platform revealed and smartphone manufactures already lining up to get the hardware out of the door for what is expected to be the next big advancement in virtual reality, developers can now focus on working on content for the platform. One such title is from OtherSide Entertainment is its tower defence game Underworld Overlord that is set to be a Daydream VR exclusive.
Described as an action strategy game, Underworld Overlord is an immersive title aimed at mixing tower defence and what the developers are calling a ‘god game’. Players will see themselves as a dungeon master who controls hordes of monsters and place various traps in order to stop trespassers stealing the treasure that you’ve been trusted to protect. You’ll need to build defences and direct your forces as the opposition becomes increasingly more challenging.
- Google will be creating its own Daydream VR headset
- Google Daydream platform is Cardboard’s much more advanced successor
The developers state that the title is specifically tailored to the capabilities of the Daydream VR platform, although don’t go into specifics, and say it was developed by a team of VR and Android experts working in close collaboration with Google.
“It’s a stand-alone game, but connects to the upcoming Underworld Ascendant, sharing creatures, characters, and rich lore. The Underworld franchise has a history of pioneering immersive video games, so bringing it to VR is a natural fit.”
OtherSide Entertainment completed a Kickstarter campaign for Underworld Overlord back in March 2015 where the team were experimenting with the Oculus Rift, so it’s interesting that the company have decided to opt for Daydream VR as a launch platform as opposed to a Rift exclusive.
