In the rapidly growing world of virtual reality, all types of experiences are possible. Though most titles in the genre tend to be shooters or action games with various features and elements thrown in, there are many new types of titles beginning to emerge as well. One such genre coming to the forefront is that of sports simulators.
Today we checked out VR Sports, a game by Sanzaru which gives players access to 4 different sport simulation experiences. Users can choose between basketball, football, and hockey, or 2 different mini games associated with each. There’s also a baseball mini game, because who doesn’t like swinging a bat?
We focused on Basketball in our demo, and were surprised at the immersion of the experience. In the game, users can dribble, pass, shoot, and even shove other players out of the way, all while trying to make the high score on the leaderboard. The integration of the Oculus Touch controllers felt very natural, and it feels like they were made for games like this, where movement of individual digits is important to enhance immersion.
We also checked out one of the Hockey mini games, which is essentially a boxing match on ice. Players must punch, block, and dodge a number of NPC’s in order to complete the game, and have their vision blurred by white bursts each time they are hit. If you’ve ever dreamed of being in a hockey fight, this is as close as it gets.
You can check out gameplay of VR Sports in our video above, and make sure to hang out for coverage of everything new here at Oculus Connect 3.
