The Walking Dead zombie franchise of popular comic books and TV shows will soon extend its undead reach to VR games. Today, as part of E3 2017, Skydance Interactive announced it will develop a series of games based on The Walking Dead, with the first due in 2018.
Skydance Interactive, a division of the well known Skydance movie production company, will work with The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman and his own Skybound Entertainment on the games. They will target high-end headsets such as the Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and PlayStation VR products. There are few details about the games themselves, but the report claims they will feature new settings and characters instead of using content from the comics or TV shows.
Skybound Entertainment’s president of interactive Dan Murray told Variety that these Walking Dead VR games will “blow people away”. Hopefully those words will be proven as more than just hype for these titles. There are certainly plenty of zombie games for VR users to choose from already, so it will be interesting to see if the Walking Dead games will bring something new to the mix. In the meantime, if you are a fan of the comics or TV shows, are you excited about the idea of an official Walking Dead VR game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
