Released in 2020, Half-Life: Alyx is widely considered to be one of the best VR games ever released. Its popularity is reflected by the thriving modding community around it, with creators using Half-Life: Alyx Workshop Tools to create everything from small gameplay tweaks to custom game addons to total conversions.
One recently released a total conversion of Half-Life: Alyx that you should definitely try is the second chapter of Gunman Contracts, a John Wick-inspired high-octane shooter that takes advantage Valve’s Source 2 to make you feel like a real action hero.
You play as an unknown gun-for-hire, and your goal is to complete dangerous assignments. In the first chapter, you have to find and extract a missing woman who is believed to be in the hand of human traffickers. In the second chapter, you take on the human trafficking operation and the man behind it.
In both Gunman Contracts chapters, there are only human enemies, and the gameplay has been tweaked so that it takes just one headshot or two body hits to take down an opponent. The number of hits it takes for the player character to die can be adjusted by changing the difficulty settings. On the hardest difficulty, it takes three hits for the player to die, whereas the same three hits won’t do any damage on the easiest setting.
To play Gunman Contracts and enjoy its custom gameplay, assets, and sounds, you need to have a copy of Half-Life: Alyx. You can then subscribe to Gunman Contracts – Chapter 1 – The Extraction and Gunman Contracts – Chapter 2 – Art of War through Steam Workshop.
