Role-playing games (RPGs) with intricate lore, deep gameplay mechanics, and plenty of replayability are always in high demand. In just a week, all Oculus Quest owners will be able to explore dark dungeons and battle dangerous monsters in a new retro-inspired RPG called Stones of Harlath.

Developed by Garage Collective, the creators of an immersive first-person shooter called Theta Legion, the game transports players to the cursed island of Harlath, where they’ll adventure through multiple dungeons while solving puzzles and doing their best to stay alive with the help of sharp swords and powerful spells.

As the official trailer shows, Stones of Harlath relies heavily on hand gestures. Players use their controllers to draw runes in the air to cast offensive and defensive spells alike, protect themselves from melee and ranged attacks using a sturdy shield, and swing their sword to deliver as much damage as possible.

Besides its immersive gameplay mechanics, Stones of Harlath attracts with its retro graphics, whose simple charm should please all VR gamers who grew up with games like Might and Magic, The Legend of Zelda, Eye of the Beholder, Wizardry, Ultima Underworld, and others. The game mixes 3D environments and 2D sprites while relying on high-quality lighting to create an enchanting atmosphere.

Stones of Harlath is currently available as a pre-order title in the Oculus Quest store at a promotional price of $8.99 (the full price is $9.99). It’s scheduled to release on June 3, 2021. There’s also a SteamVR version of the game listed on Steam for Oculus Rift, but it won’t be available until July 15.
