Venice VR Expanded Returns in 2021 with a Massive Lineup

In September, the Venice International Film Festival will return for the 78th time, and with it Venice VR Expanded. Once again, the virtual event will be held within the social app VRChat and feature a number of immersive projects from global creators.

“The aim of the Festival is to raise awareness and promote international cinema in all its forms as art, entertainment and as an industry, in a spirit of freedom and dialogue,” state the organizers of the festival on its official website. “The Festival also organizes retrospectives and tributes to major figures as a contribution towards a better understanding of the history of cinema.”

Those who like their virtual reality experiences to be as social as possible can look forward to a virtual version of Venice called the Venice VR Expanded hub. There, visitors will be able to see previews of the official selection and discuss them with other visitors. For accredited guests, there will be opening and closing parties, sessions with creators, and other fun stuff to experience.
