It’s no secret that employees can get their ideas across the best when they collaborate in a shared environment. When that environment is a physical conference room, then the environmental cost of such collaboration can be high since business travel is one of the largest contributors to CO2 emission.

Fortunately, modern technology allows more sustainable alternatives to exist, and virtual reality office space provider Arthur has just released a major update to its platform.

With the update, Arthur’s virtual office space now lets more than 50 people occupy the same virtual environment at the same time and enjoy features such as audio zones for private conversations in subgroups of people, photorealistic avatars with lip-syncing, speech-to-tech capabilities, and more.

“While most VR platforms offer simple meetings with a few people, Arthur is mainly used for large-scale brainstorming sessions with whiteboards, flow charts, and other complex meetings in real-time,” explains Christoph Fleischmann, Founder and CEO of Arthur. “We are making the virtual office a highly sought-after solution for the enterprise space, combining a collaborative and highly productive meeting environment with realistic settings to meet with colleagues and coworkers, such as a coffee bar.”

Arthur supports the Oculus Quest and Quest 2 virtual reality headsets, and it has two models: Professional (currently in beta) and Consumer (intended for startups and individual professionals). The platform is already being used by several major organizations, including the United Nations and Societe Generale.

Given how severe the disruptive impact of the still ongoing coronavirus pandemic was on the ability of organizations of all sizes to meet and collaborate face-to-face, it’s very likely that the demand for virtual reality solutions such as Arthur will keep increasing even after the last social distancing restriction has been lifted.
