The Witcher series of video games has earned its place in the hearts of gamers around the world, and it started in 2007 with the release of The Witcher. Now, thanks to modder Patryk Loan, you can now experience much of the janky, atmospheric role-playing game in VR.

Patryk’s mod, called Witcher in Virtual Reality, has recently been updated to version 2.0, adding a battle system, NPCs, cutscenes, fully playable prologue storyline, and even some Easter eggs.

“Greetings! Update 2.0 is out now with a fully playable prologue! – Yoo-hoo! The time to become a real monster slayer has come! Put your VR headset on and let’s crush some balls!” writes Patryk.

Bringing The Witcher into virtual reality was no easy feat. Patryk had to carefully remodel and retexture every single prop before transferring it from the original game.

Cutscenes received the same treatment and even some extra love in the form of additional lore-friendly content to ensure that players who have beaten the game on a flatscreen have many new things to discover.

To play the mod, you need a copy of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. The installation process is straightforward, and it boils down to the following steps:

  1. Download the mod.
  2. Extract it.
  3. Run Setup.bat.
  4. Point the installer to the folder where The Witcher is installed.
  5. Download and install voice-over.

Supported headsets include the Quest 2 with the Oculus Link cable, HTC Vive, Pro, Cosmos, and Cosmos Elite, Valve Index, and others. To enjoy decent performance, your PC should have the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super graphics card and the Intel Core i5 8600k CPU or their equivalents.
