The award-winning games studio behind Zombieland: Headshot Fever, XR Games, has raised $2.1 million in funding for its planned expansion.
Maven Equity Finance (part of the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund) led the funding round, with participation from ACT Capital Partners. XR Games plans to use the money to develop its own original intellectual property and create as many as 20 new roles at its studio in Leeds, UK.
“We’re delighted with the investment from our new partners at Maven Capital Partners, as well as ACT Capital Partners following on from their previous investment, and continued support from Praetura Ventures,” said XR Games’ CEO Bobby Thandi.
“We’re already putting the investment to good use by hiring senior personnel such as a chief operating officer, creative director, and a new head of production. “We’re also expanding the development, game design and art teams, and we’re further developing our sales and marketing initiatives to expand our work-for-hire division.”
XR Games released its last game, Zombieland: Headshot Fever, in March 2021. At the time of writing, Zombieland: Headshot Fever is rated 4.5 stars out of 5 on the Oculus Quest Store, with players praising its simple yet addictive gameplay mechanics, which revolve around arcade light-gun action where fast reflexes are rewarded with a high-ranking place on the leaderboards.
Before Zombieland: Headshot Fever, XR Games released Angry Birds Under Pressure VR, one of the best couch co-op VR games available, according to PSVR World.
As things are, we have to wait for XR Games to announce what its third game will be. Judging by the studio’s past releases, there’s a good chance that the new IP will be successful, and we’ll make sure to inform you as soon as more information about it is available.
