It seems that Amazon has decided to reinvent the hairdressing experience using modern technology. The e-commerce giant has announced the launch of a new hair salon where customers can experience the best in hair care and styling, as well as the best in augmented reality.

The new 1,500 sq. ft. hair salon is located on Brushfield Street in London’s Spitalfields, and it’s managed by the owner of Neville Hair & Beauty, Elena Lavagni.

“We have designed this salon for customers to come and experience some of the best technology, hair care products and stylists in the industry,” stated John Boumphrey, Amazon’s UK Country Manager. “We want this unique venue to bring us one step closer to customers, and it will be a place where we can collaborate with the industry and test new technologies.”

One of the technologies Amazon will be testing is real-time hair color visualization using augmented reality. Essentially, customers will be able to sit in front of a mirror with a tablet attached to it and virtually try out different hair colors before committing to any specific one.

The hair salon will also showcase a selection of bestselling professional hair care products, with a QR code next to each product. Customers will be able to scan the QR codes to learn more information about the products on display, and it will take them just one click to add any product to their Amazon.co.uk shopping cart and have it delivered to their home.

“I am delighted to be part of this project – the salon combines classic hairdressing services with technology to deliver a completely unique experience for clients,” said Elena Lavagni, owner of Neville Hair & Beauty. “Our creative team of stylists, whose flair for hair is as intrinsic as their love for technology, will put the client at the heart of everything they do. I feel proud to use our 40 years’ experience in the industry to help bring this salon to life.”

Initially, the hair salon will be opened only to Amazon employees, but bookings for the general public should go live in the coming weeks.
